Sometimes less is more, and this is indeed the case with this sunny summer scene of a dock with two retro style metal chairs with water reflected behind them. You can feel the heat beating down on the concrete dock and the chairs are placed as if two people just left a moment ago. Lotus says she wanted to “imply the human element instead of actually placing people in the in the painting so the viewers could imagine themselves there”. The water in the background is in deep greens and blues and looks cool and refreshing-a nice contrast. Notice how the right chair is bent out of shape so the leg does not sit on the surface!
